Idoling!!! member Serina Nagano (#13) announced her graduation from the group at a release event for their 23rd single “Yuki Usagi” at Diver City’s Festival Plaza on December 28, 2014.

Serina Nagano explained that she would leave the group to pursue her dream of becoming a voice actress. Known for her anime/manga otaku personality, Nagano made her show business debut as a model when she was 4-years old and appeared on the popular children’s TV program “Oha Star” before joining Idoling!!! as a 2nd generation member in 2008. With Nagano’s graduation, this makes it the second graduation announcement by a 2nd generation member in Odaiba (Ami Kikuchi, Idoling #16, announced her graduation at Tokyo Idol Festival 2014 in August) and the 3rd such announcement this year. 5th generation member Reia Kiyoku (Idoling!!! #30) announced her graduation from the group via her blog on December 22nd.

After performing a 5-song “mini-live” with the group, Nagano made her announcement, which drew exclamations of shock from the loyal fans braving the chilly winter temperatures. Fellow 2nd generation member Nao Asahi (Idoling #15) was brought to tears upon hearing the news.

Nagano commented: “It’s been 7 years since I joined Idoling!!! as a 13-year old and there have been many failures but, it has been a valuable 7 years as well. As for why I have decided to graduate, I joined Idoling!!! and while working as an idol, I was able to find my dream of becoming a voice actress, so in order to pursue that dream, I will graduate from Idoling!!!.”

7 girls idol group “palet” held their a year‐end concert at Shinjuku ReNY on December 28. The venue was filled with a lot of fans and heated with their hot atmosphere. 7人組アイドルグループ「palet」が12月28日、新宿ReNYにて年末を締め括るワンマンコンサートを行った。会場には多くのファンが駆けつけ、熱気に満たされていた。 The group performed 18 songs including their latest single “SNOW DISTANCE” and also, of course, beloved songs from their indie era. During the first MC section, a member Mizuki Kimoto told fans “Today’s theme is omnibus of 2014! We’d like to share the memories of this year!”

As she commented, their performance was kind of heart-warming so that we could feel the strength of the 7 girls’ bond that has got stronger through the activities of this year. This year, the members experienced meaningful things such as new member Yumi Nakano joined in June, they held the first-ever concert tour in 3 big cities in Japan in summer, and they finally took five place in Oricon Weekly Ranking.

Kimoto’s partner Riona Igusa commented while looking back this year, “I want to continue palet with this member now and forever, and also become more big idol group! In the middle section of the concert, Yumi Nakano surprised fans greatly. She played a guitar (a blue green telecaster) with live band on the stage! Maybe, no one could expect that. According to her comment, it was her very first time to play a guitar on stage. However, her guitar playing was amazingly good like Jimmy Page!

After that, Nagareda Project joined the concert as a guest band and performed “Shake My Soul”, “Zankoku Na Tenshi No These (Cover)”, and “Believe in Yourself!” with palet members. Especially, the band version of their major debut single “Believe in Yourself” was super fantastic. This was the very first time for palet that their best cheer song was performed in live band style. It was perfect for the special year-end concert.

At the last moment of the concert, some surprise announcement was made. Firstly, they will release the 1st major album titled “LOVE n’ ROLL !! (read Love and Roll)” on March 4, 2015. Then, they will hold 3 cities concert tour again from March to April. Moreover, their 3rd anniversary concert is confirmed to be held at Ebisu The Garden Hall on June 21. The capacity of the venue is over 1,000, that is the largest ever than before for the group. The anniversary concert has a subtitle “~ Time to Change ~.” It sound highly meaningful.

Anyway, the members carried out their 1st year after major debut. The bond of them has been tied strongly, now is a good time to be a big idol group for them. As if Warring States period, still there are a lot of idol groups in Japan. However, we’d like to bet that palet will be a popular idol group as the “ultimately pure” idol.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Days (24th and 25th December 2014), Momoiro Clover Z had two-days Christmas live concert “Momoiro Christmas 2014 Shining Snow Story” at Saitama Super Arena. This is the first time they have their Christmas Live at this venue since 2012, and about 90 thousands of fans (including both at venue and at theater) enjoyed the Christmas present from Momoiro Clover Z. Here I deliver you the fans of Momoclo all over the world the concert report!!

The theme of the concert “Shining Snow Story”
The theme of this Christmas Live is “Shining Snow Story”. Stage director of the concert infused “Be with smile” into the title. This cocnert theme might be inspired from the comments of Kanako Momota, the leader of this group, in their dreamed live at the National Stadium in March 2014: We want to be the top who makes everyone smile. The title tune of the Christmas limited single “Hitotsubu no Egao de” (meaning “with a piece of smile”) is written as the theme song of this live.

The Christmas concert was really built around the theme. Based on the  theme, the concert had a story between a robot girl and the members of Momoiro Clover Z. The concert started with a robotic staging appearing a robot girl with a dancers group “Time Machine” led by Koutei Sen-nin, a world-famous robotic dancer. Voice-over told: Machines which were completely same as humans but could not understand only “SMILE” for the life of them. After the robot dance opening, the members of Momoiro Clover Z appeared with an introduction by Lenne Hardt. Using projection mapping technology, the faces of the members look as machine, but with a smile.

The story progressed at the intermissions of the concert. At the first intermission, large nutcracker-like dolls of the members appeared with carols, singing “We want to make our fans happily smile, and they always bring smiles to us. We are sure that with our fans we can bring a smile to the robot girl!” The robot girl and dancers group danced with emotionless mask even here. In the next intermission, professional social dance group performed flowery dance in front of the Downtown Momoclo band. Soon after the intermission, “Hitotsubu no Egao de” was performed as a musical of the members and the robot girl. Finally, the robot girl understood the meaning of emotion, and got a smile on its face.

Momoclo-style Entertainment is still alive
Of course, Momoiro Christmas 2014 had a lot of basic items of their Christmas concert. Plenty of Christmas songs such as “Bokura no Century”, “Naichaisou Fuyu”, Santa-san” or “Shiroi Kaze” were performed. With “Santa-san”, Reni-chan performed magic trick again this year. This year she challenged to penetrate fired lances into her body (She told last year “I’ll use fire next year!!”).

A lot of guests participated in and added spice to the concert. Masahiro Tanaka, a world class pitcher who plays in New York Yankees (and is known as a fan of Momoclo), appeared on the 2nd day as the special secret guest, and had a baseball battle against Kanako. Furthermore, he danced the track “My Dear Fellow” which is written for him, on the stage with the members of Momoclo. An actor/singer Shigeru Matsuzaki appeared as usual, and broke the news of Momoclo Dontaku in next spring at Fukuoka. As we described above, various professional dance teams such as Time Machine led by Koutei Sen-nin or Social Dance Group “Social Clover Z” appeared in the intermissions, and strengthened the story of the concert.

The Christmas tasted costumes were so CUTE and well-modulated. They performed their first musical challenge in the black and silver colored gorgeous tuxedo-like costumes. Its coloring is not normal for them but fit their cool performance! Other costumes such as Pierrot costume, Christmas Tree costume or holy-girls costume, were 5 colored for each member, and very cute. Santa-san is performed only in this season, and this year’s Santa-san in Christmas Tree costume was especially pretty!

In the final part of the concert, they always make comments for the live. They all stated thanks to the fans of Momoclo and staffs. Shiori Tamai stated: “As long as there is anyone who hope for us, we remain Momoiro Clover Z. We tries to present you with new entertainment, happiness and smiles”. Kanako Momota said: “It could be difficult to make everyone all over the world only by ourselves. But, I make you smile, and YOU can make someone who don’t know us smile. This circle of smiles could make the world smile!”

Every year, Momoiro Christmas has been just “Momoiro Christmas”. Of course it had been the wrap-up concert of the year and the start of the next year, but the original theme of the concert is “Christmas”, so their past Christmas concert just included such things. This year, they challenged new sub-theme “Shining Snow Story” with a musical-like theme song, and blending it with the Christmas concert. This could not be possible without their experience as actresses for their new movie “Maku ga Agaru” this year. They have absorbed a lot of new experience, and always utilize them to make fans smile.

They already announced a lot of events in 2015! In January 2015, the Stardust Promotion, where Momoiro Clover Z belongs, has one week event series “Fujii to Yome no 7 days War”. In April they have fan-club event “Momoclo Dontaku” at Fukuoka Yahuoku! Dome. Don’t miss the 2015’s Momoiro Clover Z!!

KANIKAPILA, the girl band that is being called the female Checkers, is about to make their professional recording debut. These seven girls are all from Kurume city in Fukuoka prefecture, the same hometown as the Checkers who were one of the biggest bands in Japan in the 80s and 90s.
Their average age is 15, and all are in middle school or high school. Leona (16) plays guitar, Kana (15) plays bass, and Natsuko (15) plays keyboard, while Aoi (15) and Mizuho (14) play percussion and guitar, Yoshika (16) plays ukelele and guitar and Pippi (14) is the drummer.
The girls met as members of a local Hawaiian music circle organized by their parents and decided to form a band. Kanikapila means “play music” in the Hawaiian language. Back in December, 2013 in Tokyo they won a contest as a Scandal tribute band (Scandal is a super popular girls’ group) and already are galvanizing audiences as a talented group of real musicians.

Their debut single Icchae! I Love You! that will be released on February 25 next year was written by original Checkers members, lyrics by Fumiya Fujii and music by Naoyuki Fujii. Their low-key brother act F-Blood have been doing solid back-up for their younger counterparts’ debut. It’s a bright pop song that KANIKAPILA’s Aoi says “expresses everything that Kanikapila is about.” Natsuko is pumped for success— “When people think of girl bands I want them to think Kanikapila!”

2015 looks to be shaping up as the year that Japan’s girl band music scene comes back to the “band sound”, meaning real music. Kanikapila is the most promising group within that trend. You need to hear this band!

Especia has revealed the short MV for “We are Especia ~Nakinagara Dancing~” that will be included in their debut mini album “Primera” as its lead track. The album will be released on February 18.

The group is active in the idolsphere, but they are gaining great reputations by their vaporwave music style featuring DISCO sounds, Boogiepop, FUNK, AOR, and so on.
Their major debut track “We are Especia” also features Disco pop sounds. That was produced by Waka-danna from Shounan no Kaze, Japanese popular Hip-Hop group.

Especia’s activity base is Osaka, the largest city of Japanese west-side. So, they will show you some different style from Tokyo-like common idols. Don’t forget to check out their future activities from now on!

@JAM EXPO, one of the largest idol events in Japan, had 100 groups performing in one day in 2014 summer, will hold @JAM EXPO 2015 in August 29th 2015 at Yokohama Arena. The concept of @JAM EXPO 2015 is world’s largest Japanese idols’ music exhibition!

Same as previous @JAM EXPO 2014, various kinds of stages will be arranged in the venues, and talk sessions, DJ booths, and other special events will be taken place besides live concerts. It will be much more exciting event you can enjoy a whole day and lost track of time!

The ticket for the event will be released overseas as well, and oversea record companies, promoters, music industries people will be invited, to make the event real world’s largest Japanese idols’ music exhibition!

Yumemiru Adolescence have performed in “Thailand Comic Con 2014,” an event held in Bangkok, Thailand, on May of last year, and in “Anime Idol Asia 2014″ on October of last year. The enthusiastic support received from the locals on these instances became a good chance for the group to have their own regular program on Thai’s terrestrial TV. MCOT offers real time streaming service when the program airs, so it can be viewed from Japan too.

ANGERME, formarly known as S/mileage, will hold their one-man concert (currently untitled) at Nippon Budokan on May 26th.
The group showed their first performance since the new three members joined during Hello!Project’s joint concert held at Nakano Sun Plaza on January 2nd. Then, on the stage, the members announced this news to their fans sooner than others. The details on the Budokan concert will be announced at a later date.

The casts for AKB48 groups’ drama series titled “Majisuka Gakuen 4″ that will be broadcasted from January 19th has been revealed.
The program will be aired limited in Tokyo metropolitan area through Nippon Television.

Majisuka Gakuen is a television drama series based on the school life starring AKB48 groups. So far, three series have been broadcast.
In the upcoming series “Majisuka Gakuen 4″, Sakura Miyawaki (HKT48 & AKB48) and Haruka Shimazaki (AKB48) will play the leading part. Miyawaki will play a role of “Sakura”, a transfer student aiming to get a top of Majisuka Jogakuen (Majisuka Girl School). Shimazaki will act as “Salt”, the current leader of the school.

In addition, Sayaka Yamamoto and Miyuki Watanabe will appear as students of its rival schoolcalled Gekioko Koukou (Gekioko High School). Furthermore, Haruna Kojima, Rino Sashihara, and other members will also appear as guest actresses.
For your information, this will be the first time that NMB48 member makes appearance in this drama series.

The original story of this drama series were written by Yasushi Akimoto. The trailer footage has been available on NTV website as follows.

AKB48’s first overseas sister group, JKT48, held a concert on December 27 and 28 to celebrate the group’s third year since their debut in Jakarta’s Tennis Indoor Senayan. Their concert’s concept was “SAYA MASHI ANAK KECIL (We’re still children)” and it celebrated the group’s anniversary while expressing their gratefulness towards the fans that have supported them since. All 67 members participated during the concert, and both days were sold out shows. Between the two concerts, they brought in more than 5000 fans.

The first song JKT48 performed was “PARTY ga Hajimaru Yo,” and as soon as the performance began, the venue went crazy! Haruka Nakagawa (Team J), who transfered from AKB48, inaugurated “Haruka Project” where she selectedmembers, songs to perform, and created the costumes. The members in “Haruka Project” are Haruka, Sinka (from Team KIII), and trainees Angel and Grace. The four of them performed “Kimi Dake ni ChuChuChu!” and “Jibun Rashisa.” During the concert on the 27th, they asked fans for unit name suggestions, which resultedin the new name “4 Gulalii” (4 Cotton Candies).

In the last half of the concert, Veranda (Team J) performed “Yokaze no Shiwaza,” Rona (Team KⅢ) performed “Nakinagara Hohoende,” and JKT48’s captain Melody performed “Oteage Lullaby.” They circled the venue on dollies similar to the ones used in AKB48 concerts while performing their solos. All members wowed the audience when they performed “Arigato” to express their gratitude towards the fans who have supported them from the beginning.

The concert, which had 80 song performances throughout the two days, was recorded by Indosiar, Indonesia’s TV station, and is expected to broadcast across the country. During the encore of the two-day concert, there were support messages from Indonesian celebrities, as well as a message from AKB48’s general director Minami Takahashi, causing the fans and JKT48 members to cheer. There was even a surprise announcement announcing that there will be an AKB48 and JKT48 joint concert in February 2015.

From an idol culture created in Japan to an original idol culture in Indonesia, JKT48 has developed. Itʼll be fascinating to see how the joint concert will happen, and while it is still unknown, we are really expecting

KOBerrieS♪, an local idol group whose activity base is in Kobe, Hyogo prefecture, will be releasing their new single “Omoide Yell” on January 14th.
The song was produced by Satoshi Yamamoto, a guitarist of the punk & rock band GAGAGA SP who was also born in Kobe as the members of KOBerrieS♪.
On January 17th, it will be twenty years has passed since Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster took place. Yamamoto written this song to encourage Kobe again.

All of the scenes in the music video was filmed in a town of Kobe. A captain of the group Mei commented “We filmed the video clip on the mountainside and the seaside of KOBE, in addition to that, we also filmed it in a shopping street of Shin-Nagata that took on a lot of damage from the past earthquake.
We hope you will come to Kobe to see the locations featured in our music video.”

Ah, what sentimental scenes these are for people who was born in Kobe… Actually, it’s me.

In addition to the song, a cover version of “Sotsugyou (Graduation)”, a popular song of GAGAGA SP, will be included in its coupling track.

The video is pretty straightforward, consisting of alternating black-and-white shots of the members in Harajuku and color shots of them playing in a live house. There is also some imagery of flowers growing on the side of the road, a parallel to the message in the lyrics which encourage the listener to keep going for their dreams no matter what troubles come their way.
